Studio David Pompa is the creator behind this contemporary Barro Negro Plate.Studio David Pompa is a young multidisciplinary design studio based in Mexico and Austria. Founder David Pompa Alarcon grew up in both countries and draws on this multicultural youth in his design practice.The studio works closely with Mexican artisans, drawing upon their rich cultural knowledge and experience to create unique pieces. David became inspired to work with local artisans during a trip to Oaxaca in 2009. Whilst there he watched skilled local potters working with the region’s famed Barro Negro. Due to this experience, he created collaborative relationships to realize his dream. Through this, Studio David Pompa has been producing fusion pieces that meld traditional expertise with sophisticated modern design principles. The results are truly contemporary Mexican craft pieces, like this Barro Negro Plate.David Pompa founded the studio in Mexico City’s Roma Norte neighborhood in 2013. From this central location, David Pompa and his team continue to explore new aspects of Mexican culture. Merging traditional crafts with contemporary aesthetics, they create unique pieces that showcase the essence of the raw materials used. Their high-quality objects are both beautifully crafted and thoughtfully designed.
