Andres Belisario created this Terra Swinging Planter Pot Set for Estudio Caribe. Andres is a celebrated Venezuelan designer based in Mexico City. His ‘Terra Incognita’ pieces take inspiration from the intrepid explorations of geographers, cartographers, and naturalists of old. These explorers redefined the boundaries of our world and made great discoveries in the process. Andres took particular inspiration from Humboldt and Bonpland’s 1799 exploration of Latin America. In his pieces he reimagines the diverse flavors, sensations and experiences these representatives of the old world came across while mapping out the new world. Belisario’s careful detailing and design represent the ambiguous blank spots on pre-satellite maps, which were traditionally marked as ‘terra incognita’. Rounded and hand-carved from mango wood, these pieces balance mystery, and minimalism for a truly delightful result. The planter pot rotates on itself, rather than staying fixed, emulating wonders that lie beyond the boundaries of the known. Andres chose to work with mango because of its unique exotic properties, and its abundance. This piece is thus as sustainable as it is mesmerizing. Estudio Caribe is a collective that stretches from Mexico to Venezuela. Its members share a passion for representing the unique tropical modernism of the Caribbean region. They combine traditional techniques and materials with contemporary technologies and tastes. As such, they produce pieces that embody both their rich cultural heritage and their contemporary design values. Studio Caribe runs a workshop filled with both cutting edge machinery and extensive cultural knowledge. Their artisans are experts in working with many materials. These include steel, resin, high-temperature ceramics and, of course, tropical woods.
